IMDS (International Material Data System) is a database of automotive material data used for automobile manufacturing. It is a joint project of major car manufacturers (Audi, BMW, VW, Daimler Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volvo and others), which was created
in response to Directive 2000/53 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on end-of-life vehicles.
The aim of the database is to provide car manufacturers with an overview of the material composition of the parts supplied to them by the supplier because of its recycling, thus reducing negative environmental impacts.
Electronic system is used to share information. Information on material composition of parts is entered into the system by the supplier.
The first thing a supplier needs to do is register through www.mdsystem.com. At the same time the supplier must appoint
an administrator, the person who will manage this database. The administrator fills in the company data and then enters the material composition of the parts supplied to the automotive industry.
Binding requirements are defined in detail in the currently valid IMDS Recommendation and are available for each registered IMDS user.
