Advanced GD&T Competencies: Datum Usage Web Seminar RePlay

While the basics of datums are covered in a standard Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) course, those discussions often overlook the variations that enable datums to be used in complex ways. This advanced course will detail the proper use of datums, showing their full potential to make your drawings as effective as possible. Most people who use GD&T are familiar with traditional datums derived from flat surfaces, and have adequate knowledge of the principle of establishing 3-2-1 contact points. In this web seminar, participants will learn to select, identify, simulate, and describe datums and datum features for special uses such as irregular shapes, flexible parts, and datum references that use the maximum material modifier. Also covered are several new modifiers and options given in the ASME Y14.5-2009 standard. Learning these advanced techniques will allow designers to better communicate certain requirements.

Objectives

By participating in this course, you\’ll be able to:

  • Explain the difference between a datum and a datum feature
  • Select appropriate datums for irregularly shaped parts such as body or interior panels
  • Properly simulate given datums
  • Explain effects of a modified datum on a geometric tolerance
  • Interpret new datum tools such as translation and custom degrees of freedom

Standardization in a Competitive Environment

Standards aren’t considered competitive tools by definition. However, through well-managed participation, standards can become significant competitive enablers as the role of standardization becomes more substantial within a company.

This on-demand course begins by providing a high-level review of how the standards world functions, including the definition of a standard, key participants in the development of a standard, and the typical standards development process. The course introduces the who, what, why, and how of standardization and explores how standards can be better utilized within organizations. The presentation also examines standards in the global marketplace, looks at the role of competition, competitiveness, and differentiation, and identifies strategic priorities related to standardization and standards, specifically related to supply chain and international trade agreements.

After introducing principles of standardization and discovering how they operate within a fictional company, this course will present a strategic approach for the management and utilization of standards within an organization. Techniques to effectively approach a standardization exercise, or to better understand standardization activities within a company will be offered.

Objectives

By participating in this On Demand Course, you will be able to:

  • Describe a standard and how it is developed
  • Explain the world of voluntary standards
  • Explain the concept ofcompetitiveness in the marketplace
  • Distinguish the difference between standardization and standards
  • Envision a potential role for standardization within your company

AI Transformation of Your Company

Our two-day workshop is designed to provide participants not only with theoretical knowledge but, more importantly, practical skills in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The workshop focuses on identifying and implementing AI solutions that can bring significant improvements in efficiency and productivity within companies. Participants will learn how to use AI to optimize processes, measure AI’s impact on company performance, and introduce innovative approaches using generative AI. This workshop is crucial for companies that want to remain competitive and leverage the latest technologies to improve their operations and strategies.

A Familiarization of Drivetrain Components

An efficient, durable, and quiet running drivetrain is as essential to customer satisfaction as styling and interior creature comforts. This seven-module, on-demand course is designed to expose you to various methods used to accomplish this goal and will help you to visualize individual components and their functions within the entire drivetrain system, without reference to complicated equations. Instructor Joseph Palazzolo provides an introduction to the terms, functions, nomenclature, operating characteristics, and effect on vehicle performance for each of the drivetrain components, including the clutch, torque converter, manual and automatic transmissions, driveshaft, axle, wheel ends, and brakes.

Insights into the structure and function of each component, vehicle performance, and related noise, vibration, and harshness issues are provided. You’ll also be equipped to evaluate the space requirements, mounting needs, and clearances required.

Objectives

By participating in this on-demand course, you’ll be able to:

  • Discuss both practical and technical aspects of smoothing clutch operation by incorporating cushion and torsional dampers
  • Compare different types of transmission synchronizers, automatic transmission torque converters, hydraulic clutch operation and epicyclic gear trains
  • Describe the interaction of gear ratios and vehicle performance as related to engine horsepower and torque curves
  • Explain phasing and mounting of propeller shafts as related to torsional excitation and secondary couple loads
  • Describe different types of differentials
  • Compare common misconceptions of limited slip devices to their actual performance
  • Recognize four-wheel drive systems and the need for an inter-axle differential
  • Appraise electronic control of torque through braking and clutching devices
  • Evaluate the total drivetrain package as a system

Advanced GD&T Competencies: Profile of a Surface Web Seminar RePlay

While the topic of profile is covered in a basic Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) course, those discussions often ignore the variations allowed with these symbols that enable them to be used in complex ways. This advanced web seminar will clarify the proper use of the profile tolerances in GD&T and uncover the nuances of these two symbols. Since profile of a surface is arguably the most powerful GD&T symbol, its full potential will be explored. It can be used to control size, form, orientation, and location and its relationship to datums can be varied. Learning these advanced techniques will allow designers to better communicate certain requirements. The examples given in this session will also illustrate several of the new options for profile that were introduced in the ASME Y14.5-2009 standard.

Objectives

By participating in this course, you\’ll be able to:

  • Explain when profile tolerances require a datum reference
  • Determine which aspects of GD&T a given profile tolerance controls
  • Interpret unilateral, bilateral, and nonuniform tolerances
  • Describe how to properly measure profile tolerances

Six Sigma | Green & Black Belt Combo

This intensive course is aimed at a detailed introduction to statistical methods and experiments. Course participants must demonstrate knowledge of previous certification levels. Six Sigma Black Belt graduates are perfectly familiar with the philosophy, principles and processes of project and process management. A black belt means you are ready to lead teams, support them and set the right methodology, roles and responsibilities. Knowledge of basic Six Sigma techniques and min. 5 processed projects according to the DMAIC methodology.

JMP(R) Software: Designing and Building a Complete JMP (R) Script

This course teaches you how to approach writing a new script in a methodical way. A realistic case study is used to illustrate the typical steps. A separate case study is developed in the course exercises. A storyboard showing the results from the script, the JMP objects that will be used by the script, and the steps necessary for the script to carry out is developed at the beginning of the course, and it is further developed throughout the course. The results are used to determine the necessary data, so the next step is identifying the analysis variables and their original data stores. Techniques to import data, cleanse and harmonize data, and derive new variables complete the first half of the course. The second half of the course teaches how to script the conversion of the variables into results. JMP objects are used to create a working framework. Each object is then customized or extended as necessary. Optional results or computations are captured in a user dialog to finish the script.
