ITIL Foundation Bridge (Version 5) by PeopleCert is a short transition certification designed for people who already hold ITIL 4 Foundation and want to quickly update to ITIL Foundation Version 5 without repeating the entire content.
Below is a practical explanation of how it works.
The Bridge can only be taken by holders of ITIL 4 Foundation.
It is essentially an “upgrade” to the new version.
👉 Goal:
• Learn only the differences between ITIL 4 and ITIL 5
• Obtain the ITIL Foundation (Version 5) certificate
The course and exam focus only on the updates in ITIL 5, for example:
• New or updated concepts in digital product & service management
• Greater emphasis on AI and the digital environment
• Updated terminology and principles
• Improved approach to value creation and service lifecycle
👉 You do not relearn the basics such as:
• ITIL Value System
• Four Dimensions
• Core practices
These are assumed knowledge from ITIL 4.
The Bridge exam is significantly shorter than the standard Foundation:
• 20 questions
• 30 minutes
• Multiple-choice
• 65% passing score
• Closed book
For comparison:
The standard ITIL 5 Foundation has 40 questions / 60 minutes.
After passing the exam:
• You receive the ITIL Foundation (Version 5) certificate
• All your existing ITIL certifications are extended by 3 years
This is one of the main reasons people take it.
❌ No.
If you have ITIL 4 Foundation, you can go directly to the advanced ITIL 5 modules without the Bridge.
The Bridge makes sense mainly if you want to:
• Have Foundation in the latest version
• Quickly understand what has changed
• Renew all certifications for 3 more years
| You have | What you do |
|---|---|
| ITIL 4 Foundation | You can go directly to ITIL 5 advanced |
| ITIL 4 Foundation + Bridge | You get ITIL 5 Foundation |
| No ITIL 4 | You must take the full ITIL 5 Foundation |
