Another edition of the world’s favorite IT service management best practice framework ITIL 4 will be released by AXELOS in Q1 2019.
The new ITIL is an evolution from ITIL v3, providing a practical and flexible transition that allows organizations to adopt the new ways of working required by the modern digital world.
The core elements of ITIL will remain and will continue to derive from the experiences of thousands of specialists and experts. The new ITIL 4 version will include practical guidance on how ITIL is adopted in conjunction with practices such as DevOps, Agile and Lean. In the area of training you can expect updated syllabi and newly created courses.
The certification scheme went through the major change. ITIL Foundation remains, ITIL Practitioner will no longer be a separate module in the new certification scheme, however the knowledge and principles from the ITIL Practitioner guidance will be fundamental to all modules in ITIL 4.
The scheme is now formed by two different designation streams: ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) and ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL), and comprises of the following levels:
ITIL Foundation
ITIL Specialist modules (3)
ITIL Strategist
ITIL Leader
ITIL Master
The good news is that all certifications for ITIL will remain valid following the update. All credits gained can help you continue your ITIL journey in the new certification scheme.
After reaching 17 ITILv3 credits, you will be able to complete the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module and become the ITIL MP. If you only have taken ITILv3 Foundation, then the recommended approach is to take ITIL 4 Foundation.
